Get the Scale Right: Dining tables need fixtures roughly half to two-thirds the table width, while entryway chandeliers should leave at least seven feet of clearance below.

Nail the Hanging Height: Hang fixtures 30–36 inches above dining surfaces and kitchen islands, 75–80 inches from the floor (or about six inches above a mirror) for bathroom sconces, and 60–66 inches above the floor for bedside lighting.
